In California there is a mandate requiring residents to carry qualified health insurance. If you are not exempt from this requirement and do not have health insurance, you will be required to pay a penalty of 2.5% of your income, and no less than $695 per person and an additional $347.50.
We believe that people should be free to make their own decisions about their healthcare. Fortunately, members of qualified health care sharing plans are exempt from this mandate. Aetna is a large health insurance company that serves 23.5 medical consumers in all states within the U.S. Since their inception in 1853, they have gone through several changes to make them the insurance company they are today - extremely giving. Recently, in 2014, Aetna announced $1.2 million in grants that will go to support the use of digital technology. This technology will serve minority populations.
Altrua is notable for its popular RUBY plan tier. It features extremely low monthly costs, though benefits are limited as well.
For example, sharing benefits are capped at $150,000 per year. Unlike most other Altrua is a particularly good match for older health share members because it doesn’t have age banding.
Anthem Blue Cross is one of the most widely known and trusted names in the health insurance industry. They have one of the more popular plans in California, especially in the southern part of the state. The Anthem network allows you to see doctors nationwide.

DPC Direct is an affordable, cost-efficient health sharing program exclusively for Direct Primary Care patients.

This faith-based but non-denominational health sharing ministry is open to members of all faiths who agree to adhere to its statement of principles. A good choice for someone who wants a low initial non-shareable amount. Universal is a good choice for those with pre-existing conditions, with a short 1-year exclusion period, then a $50,000 cap for years 2 and 3.
