Why People Pair Solstice Dental With Their Health Plan

Most health plans stop at your teeth and your eyes.

If you are on an HSA-qualified plan or a health sharing membership, your medical costs are handled. Dental and vision usually are not. That leaves cleanings, exams, fillings, glasses, and contacts sitting in your budget at full retail price, in the same year you were trying to bring your healthcare spending down.

Solstice sells dental and vision separately, which is what makes it useful here. You are not buying a bundled plan you partly do not need. You pick the piece that is missing and you pay for that piece only, often for less than the cost of one restaurant meal a month.

Solstice Benefits, Inc. is a Florida corporation licensed as a Life and Health Insurer, writing through a family of state-licensed entities. Plans are offered in 10 states and the products differ by state, so the right starting point is a quote for where you actually live.

The Seven Solstice Dental & Vision Plans

Three different structures sit inside this lineup, and the difference matters more than the price.

800 Dental Plan

Florida · From $15.62 a month

Fixed member costs on a published schedule. No waiting periods, no deductibles, no claim forms. Most diagnostic and preventive care is at no charge. Cosmetic bleaching is included at $150 an arch.

800B Dental Plan

AZ, IL, NY, OH, TX · From $15.36 a month

The multi-state version, and the most complete plan in the lineup. Fixed member costs, no deductibles, no claim forms. Adds a full implant schedule and orthodontia, neither of which appears on the 800. Members can put the ortho amount toward Invisalign and pay the difference.

Plus Plan One

Florida · $12.08 a month

A discount plan rather than an insurance product. Member fees are guaranteed between 30 and 40 percent below the provider rate, and you pay the dentist directly at that reduced fee. Two cleanings a year at no charge. Lab costs are built into the listed fee. Implants are excluded.

Plus Plan Complete

9 states · $6.50 a month

The lowest monthly cost in the lineup, on the same discount structure. Member fees guaranteed between 30 and 40 percent below the provider rate. Adds 20 percent off implants and orthodontia, which Plus Plan One does not offer. Available in AZ, CO, GA, IL, NJ, NY, OH, TN, and TX.

Solstice PPO Standard

Florida · From $16.87 a month

A traditional PPO. $50 individual deductible, $150 family, and a $1,000 annual plan maximum per person. Diagnostic and preventive is paid at 100 percent with no deductible. Basic services pay 50 percent after a 6 month wait. Major services pay 25 percent after a 12 month wait. Rates vary by Florida rating area.

Solstice PPO Premier

Florida · From $32.96 a month

The same structure as Standard with better numbers. The annual plan maximum rises to $2,500 per person. Basic pays 70 percent instead of 50, major pays 50 percent instead of 25, and sealants move into preventive at 100 percent. Neither PPO has an orthodontic lifetime maximum.

Clear 10 Vision Plan

Florida · From $4.44 a month

Vision benefits with no deductible and no waiting period. A $4 eye exam once every 12 months. Single, bifocal, or trifocal lenses at $10. A $79 frame allowance after a $10 copay, or an $85 contact lens allowance. Medically necessary contact lenses are paid in full.

Solstice Dental & Vision Trade-offs

No plan is right for everyone, and these have real limitations worth understanding first.

What works

  • Monthly costs are genuinely low, from $4.44 for vision and $6.50 for dental.
  • Four of the seven plans have no deductible, no waiting period, and no annual maximum.
  • Fixed member amounts on the prepaid plans mean you know the price before you sit in the chair.
  • Specialist access with no referral and a guaranteed reduction.
  • Enrollment is online and benefits begin on your effective date.

What to watch

  • Plus Plan One and Plus Plan Complete are discount plans, not insurance. Solstice makes no payment to your dentist. You pay the office directly at the reduced member fee.
  • The two PPO plans have waiting periods: 6 months on basic services and 12 months on major services.
  • The PPO plans cap what they pay each year, at $1,000 on Standard and $2,500 on Premier.
  • On the 800 and 800B, procedures marked with a star carry additional lab and material costs on top of the member amount. High noble metal runs up to $145 and crown lab work up to $155.
  • Availability varies sharply by state. Several plans are Florida only.
  • On Clear 10, frames and contacts alternate. You get one or the other in a given year, not both.
  • The 800 plan has no implant schedule, and Plus Plan One excludes implants entirely.

Solstice Benefits Worth Knowing About

See a specialist without a referral

On the 800 and 800B plans you can walk straight into a participating oral surgeon, endodontist, orthodontist, periodontist, or pediatric dentist. No referral, no gatekeeper, and you receive a 25 percent reduction off that provider usual and customary fee.

Medically necessary contact lenses paid in full

The Clear 10 plan pays these completely, on top of the standard $85 allowance for routine contacts. The routine allowance also includes the exam, the fitting, the evaluation, and follow-up care, not just the lenses themselves.

Put your orthodontia benefit toward Invisalign

On the 800B, if you would rather have Invisalign than traditional braces, you can apply your listed orthodontic member amount to it and pay only the difference in cost. That is unusual on a plan at this price.

Procedures not on the schedule still cost less

If your dentist performs something the schedule does not list, the 800 and 800B plans price it at that dentist usual and customary fee less 25 percent. You are not exposed to full retail simply because a code was not printed.

Common Questions About Solstice Plans

Solstice Dental Insurance FAQ icon

Q: Which states offer Solstice Dental plans?

A: Solstice plans are sold in 10 states: Arizona, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Tennessee, and Texas. Not every plan is available in every state. Plus Plan Complete has the widest reach at nine states, while the 800 plan, both PPO plans, and Clear 10 vision are Florida only.

Solstice FAQ icon

Q: What is the difference between a Solstice dental prepaid plan and a discount plan?

A: On a prepaid plan like the 800 or 800B, you pay a fixed member amount listed on the schedule for each procedure. On a discount plan like Plus Plan One or Plus Plan Complete, Solstice makes no payment to your dentist. You pay the office directly at a rate guaranteed 30 to 40 percent below their usual fee.

Solstice Dental Insurance FAQ icon

Q: Can I add vision benefits without changing my dental plan?

A: Yes. The Clear 10 vision plan is a standalone product at $4.44 a month for one member in Florida. It carries no deductible and no waiting period, and includes a $4 eye exam every 12 months plus an allowance toward either frames or contact lenses.

Solstice Dental FAQ icon

Q: Do Solstice dental plans have a waiting period?

A: Most do not. The 800, 800B, Plus Plan One, and Plus Plan Complete all begin on your effective date with no waiting period. The two PPO plans are the exception. They apply a 6 month wait to basic services and a 12 month wait to major restorative services.

Solstice Dental Insurance FAQ icon

Q: Is there an annual limit on what Solstice pays?

A: Only on the two PPO plans. Standard pays up to $1,000 per person per year and Premier pays up to $2,500. The prepaid and discount plans work differently, with no annual maximum at all, because you pay a set member amount each time rather than drawing down a yearly pool.

Solstice Dental Insurance FAQ icon

Q: How do I find a participating Solstice dentist?

A: Search the provider directory at solsticebenefits.com, or sign in to the member portal at mysmile365.com/solstice. Confirm before your visit that the office performs the specific procedure you need, since a participating general dentist may not perform everything listed on the schedule.
