Located in Powell, Wyoming, 307Health is a direct primary care (DPC) clinic known for its caring, knowledgable doctors and a focus on prevention and patient involvement.
Dr. Dean Bartholomew, Dr. Mike Tracy, and Dr. Bob Chandler, the physicians at 307Health, like the DPC model because it solves many of the major concerns we see with healthcare today, including a fractured patient/physician relationship and lack of cost transparency.
307Health uses the Triple Aim of Healthcare to guide their practice. The Triple Aim of Healthcare focuses on three main objectives:
- Enhancing the patient experience by ensuring timely and trusted care
- Improving population health through preventive care and chronic condition management
- Reducing the cost of healthcare by minimizing unnecessary emergency department visits and hospital admissions.
Because Powell, WY is a relatively small town in a sparsely populated state, the three physicians saw that there was a real need for a DPC practice to serve Wyoming residents.
What is Direct Primary Care?
Direct Primary Care (DPC) is an innovative healthcare model that aims to provide accessible and affordable primary care services to patients.
Unlike traditional healthcare plans, DPC operates on a membership-based system where patients pay a monthly or annual fee directly to their primary care provider. This fee covers a wide range of primary care services, including routine check-ups, preventive care, and basic medical treatments.
There are no additional copays, coinsurance charges, or deductibles to worry about: The low, affordable, flat monthly subscription covers all in-house direct primary care services.
How Does Direct Primary Care Work?
Under the DPC model, patients establish a direct relationship with their primary care physician or practice by becoming members of the practice.
The practice doesn’t accept insurance at all. Instead, patients pay their monthly subscription directly to the practice. In return, they receive an unlimited number of appointments as needed to treat their health issues and engage in meaningful, proactive, preventative cares.
This direct primary care arrangement eliminates the complexities of traditional insurance billing. DPC practices have much lower administrative overhead and real estate expenses compared to their traditional insurance-based counterparts. This allows for a much more streamlined and transparent healthcare experience.

Benefits of Direct Primary Care
1. Increased Access to Primary Care
One of the key advantages of DPC is the improved access to primary care services.
Patients can schedule appointments more easily, often with same-day or next-day availability. Additionally, DPC practices typically offer extended office hours and virtual consultations, providing greater convenience and flexibility.
2. Enhanced Patient-Provider Relationship
DPC fosters a stronger patient-provider relationship by allowing more time for comprehensive consultations and personalized care.
Because DPC practices have much lower overhead compared to traditional fee-for-service practices, physicians can spend more time with each patient, addressing their concerns and developing tailored treatment plans without the constraints of traditional insurance models.
3. Cost Savings
By eliminating the overhead costs associated with insurance billing and administrative tasks, DPC practices can offer more affordable primary care services.
Patients pay a flat fee, which can be significantly lower than the combined costs of premiums, copays, and deductibles in traditional insurance plans. Especially for those with children or who need frequent medical care or close monitoring.
4. Focus on Preventive Care
DPC emphasizes preventive care and proactive health management.
With more time dedicated to each patient, physicians can provide comprehensive screenings, lifestyle counseling, and early intervention strategies to help patients maintain optimal health and potentially avoid more costly medical interventions in the future.
Considerations for Direct Primary Care
While DPC offers numerous benefits, it is important to note that it does not replace the need for traditional insurance or a health sharing plan.
DPC typically covers primary care services but does not include coverage for specialist care, hospitalizations, or major medical procedures. Patients may need to maintain a high-deductible health plan or catastrophic coverage to complement their DPC membership.
Learn More: Health sharing is another way to be sure you’ll have coverage for services not provided by your DPC clinic.
