How Does IUA Work in DPC DIRECT?

As a DPC provider, you probably have many patients who are members of the DPC DIRECT health sharing plan. Here’s a brief overview of the IUA options and requirements for DPC DIRECT members.

What is an IUA?

“IUA” stands for “initial unshareable amount.” It functions like a deductible in a traditional health insurance plan. DPC DIRECT’s health sharing benefits kick in only after you have paid a certain amount of money out of your own pocket. This is your IUA.

DPC DIRECT IUA Options

DPC DIRECT members can choose from three IUA levels: $1,000, $2,500, and $5,000.

Just like a deductible – the higher the IUA you select, the lower your monthly required health sharing contributions will be. 

How Is Your IUA Calculated?

With DPC DIRECT, the IUA is per medical need, not per year. A medical need is defined as “one or more medical expenses caused by a SINGLE accident or illness that exceed the Member’s IUA.” But you will not have to cover more than 3 IUAs for your family in any calendar year.

After your IUA requirement, you have no further costs. All eligible medical expenses are 100% shareable. 

Preventative Care

Childhood immunizations, colonoscopies, and mammograms are 100% shareable after six months of membership with no IUA. Preventative care visits are shareable immediately.
