FORT COLLINS, CO, UNITED STATES, December 11, 2024 A recent report from the Government Accountability Office (GAO) reveals a concerning trend in the U.S. health insurance market: decreasing competition and fewer choices for consumers during Open Enrollment periods.
According to the GAO, nearly half (47%) of U.S. health insurance markets are dominated by a single carrier with over 50% market share. In 24% of metro areas, this dominance exceeds 70%. Employers also face limited options, with highly concentrated markets in 43 states for large employers and 47 states for small businesses.
