Covenant HealthShare

Faith-Centered Healthshare Programs with Primary and Preventive Care Sharing

Headquartered in Atlanta, GA, Covenant HealthShare is a non-profit health care sharing ministry (HCSM) offering low-cost healthshare programs. With four different levels of membership, Covenant offers a wide range of plan options for both individuals and families.

Like many health sharing plans, Covenant HealthShare was founded on Christian beliefs of responsibility, community, and faith. Members are required to acknowledge and agree with Covenant’s seven statements of faith in order to join.

Start here: What is health sharing?

Health care cost sharing, or simply healthshare, is an affordable, community-based alternative to traditional health insurance. Healthshare programs provide a low-cost way for Americans to protect themselves from large or unexpected medical costs.

At the same time, health sharing plans create an opportunity to support friends, neighbors, and other healthshare members by agreeing to share the cost of one another’s healthcare through member-to-member sharing.

How do Covenant HealthShare programs work?

Like most health share programs, Covenant HealthShare is designed to facilitate the shared cost of medical bills through member-to-member funds. When a medical expense arises, the member is responsible for paying the bill. If the expense is qualified for sharing according to ministry guidelines, then Covenant will act as the clearinghouse to distribute member funds accordingly.

Instead of a deductible, Covenant HealthShare programs come with a Personal Responsibility Amount Yearly (PRAY). Covenant’s PRAY is defined as the amount not shareable by the community to individual members on a 12-month basis from the date of program enrollment. A medical need will not qualify for sharing until the total Share Request(s) submitted exceed the member’s PRAY.

Covenant Core Level: Most comprehensive option

covenant coreThe Core Level shares the cost of doctor visits, urgent care, specialty care, and hospital services. Core is available in three different PRAY levels, $1,000, $2,000, and $5,000.

Each program also has a different monthly membership gift (MMG) cost based on age bands, with family programs starting as low as $430.56 per month, and individual programs starting at as low as $191.36 per month

This is Covenant’s most popular program.

Covenant Choice Level: Budget-friendly program with meaningful protection

covenant choiceChoice level includes emergency room, ambulance, and hospital services, but with a higher PRAY amount than the Core-level option. A Choice-level membership is a good way to keep monthly costs down while staying protected against serious accidents and unexpected illnesses.

With a $10,000 Pray Amount, the Choice program starts as low as $104.12 for an individual, and $223.02 for a family, but does increase based on 10-year age bands.

Choice the most popular program for people who are comfortable with the higher PRAY amount.

Covenant Crisis Level: Pay-as-you-go pricing for catastrophic services

covenant crisisThe Crisis level provides affordable sharing for the unexpected hospital costs and emergency treatment, like riding in an ambulance or emergency surgery. Crisis is more affordable than the Core level, however it does not share the cost of regular doctor visits such as primary care or urgent care  so everyday needs may not be met.

This program comes with a $5000 or $10,000 PRAY amount, and programs starting as low as $127.36 per month.

Crisis level is chosen by people who need a lower monthly contribution amount than is available with the Core or Choice options.

Covenant Daily Level: Most affordable way to stay healthy

covenant dailyThe Daily level provides member access to doctor office visits, urgent care, specialty care, maternity, and laboratory sharing. This program starts as low as $86.40 per month for individuals, and has a low PRAY amount of only $100.

It is important to understand that this level does not provide sharing for hospitalization or surgery.

Covenant HealthShare Programs: Frequently asked questions (F.A.Q.)

A: Covenant HealthShare’s community of likeminded believers agree to abide by a set of principles deeply rooted in the Christian faith. Covenant’s statement of faith is based on ideals of community, compassion, and healthy living.

Our pastor told us about Covenant. He said that it was one of the better faith-based programs out there. Some healthshare companies are starting to leave the Christian part behind. But Covenant has it right there in their member agreement. They believe that it’s our responsibility to help our fellow man and I like being a part of that. I also like that my monthly contributions aren’t paying for people who are being unhealthy on purpose, like smokers and drunk drivers.

Feeling Blessed for Covenant’s Exceptional Grace Request

This year one of our family members was in a traffic accident. The medical costs were much higher than what our sharing program could handle. But someone at Covenant recommended that we submit a Grace Request for additional sharing, and it was granted. We’re so blessed!

Our Pastor told us to switch to Covenant

A lot of the members of our congregation are signed up with Covenant. We decided to go ahead and take their word for it. We haven’t been with Covenant for very long, but, so far so good!

Better for my high blood pressure

I used to be enrolled in MediShare. When I was diagnosed with high blood pressure my doctor said that Medishare might be too expensive. Anyway, Covenant doesn’t consider high blood pressure a previously existing condition. So now I’m paying less on monthly costs, and using the savings to pay for my medication.

They’ll charge you extra if you smoke cigarettes

It’s one of the better healthshare plans that I’m familiar with. But once they found out that I was a smoker my contribution amount went up. I guess that makes sense. Other than that the people at Covenant are nice enough and people seem to like it.

Most health sharing companies I don’t trust … Covenant is different

I’m absolutely sold with Covenant after the way they handled my wife’s share request last year. Everyone working there was professional and fast, and very caring. Much better than back when we were paying thousands for Blue Cross.

I got the Core membership

Pretty happy with Covenant so far. I’m in the Core level membership. It’s more than one of the other ones, but it includes regular doctor visits as well. 2 of them per year. My only complaint is that my old doctor wasn’t inside of their provider group, so I had to find a new one. But the new one isn’t bad.

Not the best option for smokers

Covenant is a pretty good company if you’re comparing healthshare plans. But they still charged me $50 more per month when they found out that I was a smoker. I thought about switching back to health insurance until I realized how much more expensive it would be. I’ll probably quit smoking anyway.

We feel blessed with Covenant

A member of my family was in a big accident last year, and the costs were way more than what our sharing plan could handle. Covenant suggested that I submit an Exceptional Grace Request. Within a month or two, other Covenant members were making additional donations towards our medical bills, beyond their monthly contributions. We’ve felt so blessed with Covenant ever since, and grateful for every single member that went out of their way to help us out.

Great option for people with high blood pressure

Rated 4 out of 5
September 21, 2021

I switched to Covenant because my high blood pressure was making it hard to get an affordable plan anywhere else. My agent told me that Covenant doesn’t consider high blood pressure a pre-existing condition unless you’ve been hospitalized for it. They don’t cover the blood pressure medication, but the amount I’m saving on monthly costs makes it more than worth it.

Covenant seems trustworthy

I think Covenant is one of the more trustworthy healthshare companies out there. Our family has had a lot of health issues over the last few years and Covenant has helped us every step of the way. It’s a real Christian operation with Christian values, unlike some of the other options out there. We’re truly blessed to have a program like this.

Excellent program

Excellent program… Great results so far. I joined the Core Level membership, which costs a little bit more, but has access to both regular doctor visits and urgent care. The last healthshare program I was in didn’t cover any doctor visits … This program gives me 2x per year. And still, it’s less expensive than my old insurance plan. As long as I stay within the preferred provider group, my costs are covered 100%.
