Welcome. I’m Kevin Conroy, and I’m your retirement income and estate planning expert here at HSA for America. Here’s a little about myself so you can get to know me better.

I’ve had a satisfying career. In addition to being awarded the Tony Robbins Life Mastery achievement, I’ve been a top producer for various companies and have helped innumerable people retire feeling confident about their futures. I’m thankful and humbled by the trust I’ve been given over the years.

In nearly four decades of working with retirees and soon-to-be retirees, I see a common question on everyone’s mind: will I outlive my money? It’s a valid fear.

When I’m gone, I wanted to be remembered as someone who worked hard, lived life to the fullest, and always kept their word.

One of the things I’m proudest of is seeing my daughter Erin graduate from the Fashion Institute. Unfortunately, she loves living in New York so much, she’s probably not moving back home.

Another achievement I’m proud of is selling my financial planning business at fifty-nine–to a fellow advisor ten years younger. Retirement gave me the opportunity to pursue my interests, so I became a motorcycle instructor for several schools in Colorado, and I thoroughly enjoy it.

It wasn’t long before I started missing work, especially working with people. I loved being able to help others reach financial security. When I called Wiley, the president of HSA for America, and asked if he needed anyone with my experience, he offered me the position.

Now, I’m at HSA for America, and I’m excited to be working alongside some amazing people.

Some things stay with you.

When I first started my financial planning career, I wasn’t fully aware of the impact I could (and would) have on other people’s lives.

Let me tell you about a great example of how much of an impact someone in my career can make.

I once insured a man who firmly believed he didn’t need insurance, but he eventually purchased a term life insurance policy. It’s a good thing he did. Not long after, he got sick and ended up in the hospital. Unfortunately, his premium was due, and he was in his 30-day grace period, which meant his $500,000 policy was about to expire.

When I approached the wife to take care of the payment, she wasn’t responding for whatever reason. Eventually, she came in and paid the premium on time, and his coverage remained in place. Sadly, just a few days later, he died.

The money from the policy gave her security and comfort, making sure she didn’t have to worry about money.

Similarly, a CPA referred me to the president of a corporation who refused key person disability coverage, even though his attorney had advised him it wasn’t a good idea. I showed him how important it was for the viability of the company, and he agreed to proceed with the coverage and was set up with a qualified sick pay plan.

Less than a year later, the president was diagnosed with an aggressive form of multiple sclerosis. He was able to live in dignity because of the tax-free income from the policy, and that made all the difference.

Personal Life

I spent my childhood in New Jersey and North Carolina. Now, I divide my time between Fort Collins, Colorado (my permanent residence), and Steamboat Springs, Colorado, where I live mostly in the winter because of the awesome skiing. Sally, my wife, is a physical therapist at a nursing home. She specializes in stroke, hip, knee, and other therapies.

We have two dogs, a Schnauzer and a Havanese. We had two more at one point, but they passed, and it only reminded us how short and precious life is. It’s important not to waste time and energy on things that don’t matter.

Hobbies

I have many hobbies–skiing, golf, traveling, cycling, motorcycling. I want to travel to eastern Europe, ski in Chile, and bike Patagonia. I’ve learned our idea of what we want changes over time.

I’m part of Abate of Colorado, a safety group that advocates for motorcyclists and their safety.

I’m also an enthusiastic bicyclist. Though intermediate ability, I once rode 435 miles on my bicycle, covering in excess of 23,000 vertical feet in 6 days. I’m hoping to do another Ride the Rockies either this year or next year.

I play pool in a league. Our team has won our division for the last 4 years. Unfortunately, we’ve never been to Las Vegas for the finals. Hopefully, we will in the future.

Make an appointment with me if you’re interested in learning more about retirement income and estate planning. I look forward to chatting with you and potentially working with you!

Best,
